Department of Bee Products

A wide range of studies of honey, wax, propolis, pollen and royal jelly is conducted by the Department of Bee Products. Objective of this works is not only to determine the basic composition and properties of bee products but also to establish optimal conditions for their preservation and storage.
A very important element of bee products study is to assess their purity and quality. We examine the residues of antibacterial drugs (sulfonamides), acaricides (flumethryna, fluwalinat, amitraz) and the contamination with hydrocarbon of foreign origin in wax and honey.
The results of the multi-annual survey of honey (organoleptic, physicochemical and pollen analysis) were used to prepare profiles of all of Polish varietal honeys. Laboratory with specialist equipment allows us to use modern research methods (GC-MS, HPLC), to further develop and harmonize them as well as to develop national and international standards for bee products.
Bee Product Quality Testing Laboratory implemented a quality management system of research relevant to the scope of its activities, consistent with the requirements of PN-EN ISO / IEC 17025:2005 and in 2006 obtained accreditation of eight methods for determining quality parameters of honey and accreditation of pollen analysis method used for determining variety of honey. This confirms our competence and high level of proficiency in the area.
In addition to research activities, we carry out surveys of bee products for individual beekeepers and beekeeping associations.
