Activities:
The Polish Bee Research Association was established by Leon Bornus, Bożena Chuda-Mickiewicz,
Henryk Ostach, Wojciech Skowronek, Jerzy Woyke, Halina Woyke and the deceased
Jerzy Bobrzecki, Janusz Bartoszewicz, Ryszard Kostecki, Wanda Ostrowska, Andrzej Pidek.
The statutes of PBRA were passed in 1987, updated and amended in 2001.
The tasks of the Association include:
advancement and dissemination of bee science in Poland, stimulating of research in bee science,
stimulating and support of the implementation of educational and specialization projects in the trade
and the presentation of Polish bee science home and abroad.
The association’s activities are nationwide.
They are funded from membership dues and from grants by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education
under the so-called funding of research-supporting activities.
The association implements its statutory objectives byorganizing, since 1988, annual domestic and,
since 1988, international bee research conferences with contributors from Germany, Russia,
Lithuania, Ukraine, Czechia, Romania and Slovakia.
The association has set up and is expanding a specialist bibliography database prepared
at the Apiculture Division, Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Puławy. It convenes
annual prize contests for the best graduation theses in bee science for university
and high school graduates.
It represents Polish bee research at international congresses, meetings and symposia.
They included four German-Polish symposia (I – 1992, Szczecin; II – 1994, Oberursel;
III – 1996, Olsztyn; IV – 1998, Storkov) European Scientific Apicultural Conference (2000, Puławy),
V International Conference on the Black Bee (2002, Wierzba),
II European Scientific Apicultural Conference (2002, Hungary, Balatonlelle).
It organizes popular science dissemination activities in bee research by running courses,
lectures and presentations for beekeepers. The members of the association give several
hundred hours of lectures for beekeepers and specialists of beekeeping-servicing organizations
(veterinary services, purchase and processing of bee products, breeding stations).
It reviews papers and projects in bee research and beekeeping education.
As part of its publishing activities the association edits the scientific journal
„Pszczelnicze Zeszyty Naukowe” that since 2001 has been put out under the name
„Journal of Apicultural Science” – a semi-annual published jointly with the
Institute of Pomology and Floriculture (Apiculture Division) in Puławy.
It also publishes a popular science journal „Pszczelarstwo” (Beekeeping).
The association cooperates with the Polish Beekeeping Union.
